Taw Moe Taung โ€“ A Hidden Gem in Dawei
As a nature lover and a travel enthusiast, Iโ€™ve always enjoyed discovering hidden gems, and today, I found one right here in Dawei. Iโ€™d heard about Taw Moe Taung from the students at Dawei University, but this mountain, though not new to me, had always intrigued me. Nestled in the heart of Laung Lone Township, just a short distance from the bustling town of Dawei, this mountain has a lot to offer to those who venture off the beaten path.

Journey to Taw Moe Taung

Getting to Taw Moe Taung is easy, and itโ€™s the kind of place thatโ€™s perfect for a quick escape from town. From Dawei, the mountain is only about a 15-minute drive. To get there, youโ€™ll cross the Kamyawkin Bridge and soon find yourself in Taw Shi Village, located on the other side. The road winds through scenic countryside, and the journey is just a small preview of the adventure that awaits at the top. Once you reach the base of the mountain, you can choose to continue your journey on a motorbike, which will take you half of the way, a resting point near the summit. The road is a mix of half concrete and half red dirt track, but itโ€™s manageable and adds a bit of adventure to the ride. After about 10 minutes, we arrived half way of the journey and decided to leave the motorbike thereโ€”itโ€™s a peaceful spot, and itโ€™s also where youโ€™ll find a monastery. If you want to keep going up, the rest of the journey will be on foot.

The Ascent to the Summit

The walk to the top is about 35 minutes and offers a perfect escape into nature. As we climbed, we were surrounded by towering trees and the sound of birds singing overhead. The path is shaded and peaceful, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely hike. The day we arrived, the sky was cloudy, which was a blessing. The cool weather made the walk comfortable and allowed us to take in the beauty of the surrounding nature without the sun beating down too hard. With every step, the views started to open up, revealing the breathtaking landscape below. From the summit, we could see lush forests, the winding Dawei River, and the Andaman Sea stretching out into the distance. The combination of the landscape and the quiet atmosphere made the whole experience feel almost magical.

At the Top โ€“ A Moment of Peace

After reaching the summit, we took some time to relax and enjoy the scenery. We spent about an hour and a half at the top, chatting, snapping pictures, and snacking on the treats weโ€™d brought along. The monastery on the mountain is a tranquil spot, and the monk, who greeted us when we arrived, kindly called us back when it was time to leave. Itโ€™s moments like thisโ€”small interactions with localsโ€”that make trips like this so special. The descent was just as peaceful. The quiet, the shade of the trees, and the sense of accomplishment made it a relaxing way to end the journey. We spent a few more moments under the trees at the monastery before heading back to Dawei.

A Beautiful Day in Dawei

Taw Moe Taung was exactly what I neededโ€”a quiet, beautiful spot to reconnect with nature. If youโ€™re in Dawei and looking for a peaceful retreat with stunning views and a bit of adventure, I highly recommend making the trek up this mountain. Whether youโ€™re a seasoned hiker or someone who just wants to enjoy a leisurely walk in nature, this spot wonโ€™t disappoint. Iโ€™ll be writing more about the natural beauty and hidden gems of Dawei soon, so stay tuned!
